Cathedral of Praise Rockhampton - Our Story

In the late 1970’s and early 80’s the church, then known as The Central Assemblies of God, was outgrowing it’s premises, which was a small building in Little Musgrave Street, North Rockhampton. It became necessary to hold the Sunday services in the now demolished Municipal Theatre in Bolsover Street. The land on which the Cathedral of Praise now stands was purchased in 1980, at a time when there were very few buildings so far out on the northside of the city.

Clearing of the land soon commenced and a sports oval was prepared. The first building on the property was a colourbond activity centre, which initially contained the administration offices. It is now extensively used by the children’s and youth ministries, and Heights College.

At the beginning of 1982, building commenced on the new worship and administration centre in Carlton Street, which was officially opened in November the same year and the name was then changed to the Cathedral of Praise.

The church, since its opening in 1982, has grown from just a couple of hundred people to where today hundreds attend our Sunday services. In 1998 the auditorium was completely refurbished and fully air conditioned. The latest technology in visual equipment has been installed making the services more personal to the individual.

Our future will see a new Youth and Community Centre followed by a new Worship Centre built on the southern end of the property.
